Embracing Our Culture with Youth!

NunatuKavut Community Youth Engagement Project visited Central Labrador in mid-November for a weekend of workshops at Pete Barrett’s with support from the Labrador Friendship Centre’s SHIELD Project.

Day one focused on printmaking and day two was spent teaching the youth how to make clay kudliks and gnomes.  It was such a great weekend – learning new skills and embracing our culture with youth!

Winter Workshops

Start with the basics. You will learn how to work with a variety of metal clays such as copper and nickel. This workshop is a prerequisite for our Metal Clay Ring  Making workshop

Metal tooling is a centuries-old art in which a soft metal is worked with a rounded tool on the back side in order to create a raised design on the front. In our workshop you will learn the art of copper tooling using traditional indigenous embroidery designs

Summer Workshops

We offer daily craft demonstrations at the Mealy Mountain Gallery in Cartwright, as well as 1 – 3 hour workshops.

As an active member of the local arts and crafts community of Newfoundland and Labrador, we offer a range of workshops. Although many of our workshops are based from our Cartwright location, we will travel to your site for group requests. Our workshops include:
